Cats and Kittens available for Adoption

What to consider when adopting a cat or kitten

Should I get a cat or kitten?

Kitten - It can be difficult to resist getting a kitten. While they are cute to look at and full of energy, they also demand a lot of time and patience from their owners. There is no indication of what your kitten will be like when they become an adult too, as cats don’t tend to form an established character until they’re at least a year old. If your household is more suited to a more laid-back character, it is best to choose an adult cat.

Adult - Adult cats are usually more settled and less likely to get up to mischief than kittens. Some of them will even be keen to cuddle up on the sofa or lounge around at your feet. By the time a cat is grown, their personality is well established. Mature moggies, or cats that are older than seven years old, are ideal for quieter households. While older cats aren’t always the first choice of potential adopters, they’re well worth considering as a pet. They are likely to be quieter throughout the day, sleep through the night and less likely to wander from home.

Sterilisation - Our cats who are over 6 months of age will be sterilised (neutered or castrated) by us for a number of reasons - to prevent certain cancers, prevents infections, prevents roaming, to have a calmer behaviour and of course to control population but also a longer lifespan of up to 20 years. Some kittens in our care are with their mother and they remain with them until they are ready to be adopted at a minimum of 8 - 9 weeks old. Our policy is that when the adopted kittens reach 6 months they will also need to be sterilised.

Vaccinations - All of our cats and kittens from 8 weeks old will have had their 1st vaccination and some may have had their 2nd, due at 4 weeks after the 1st, depending on their age at the time of adoption. The vet now recommends a 3rd vaccination due 4 weeks after the 2nd which is very important to protect them from the diseases. An annual booster vaccination will be required.

Anti-parasite Treatment - Our cats and kittens will have been treated for worms, ticks and fleas. The animals will need to be treated every 1 - 3 months depending on the brand used by the vets.

Microchipping (I-CAD) - All of our cats and kittens in foster care are microchipped by the vet (compulsory by law) before they are adopted. For the first 28 days they will remain in our name. For kittens they will be changed into your name once we have confirmation of sterilisation.
